Senior Investment Officer- Front Office

Job Purpose

The Investment Directorateis responsible for the investment of fresh funds and for the management ofexisting funds in line with the NHIMA investment objectives, to ensure the realizationof positive returns that enable the payment of claims when they fall due.

TheSenior Investments Officer- Front Office’s responsibility is to provide inputinto the management of the NHIMA’s investment fund, to prepare and obtaininvestments approvals, facilitation in funding all investment activities andplace surplus funds in money and capital market instruments, advising thedepartment on its business model and impact objectives. Provide input into the overall investment strategy for enhanced investment returns and ensuring the financialviability of the  NHI Fund. Additionally,the position coordinates the operations in the department for enhancedefficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and write reports on the development of investment asset classes on how the asset classes contribute towards NHIMA’s NHI fund growth and improve its level of funding for other investment prospects.
  • Submits investments recommendations,  competitive offers in the market including forex deals, structures and provides input into the creation of financial products.
  •  Assess the market conditions and keeping up to date with current statutory regulations and monitoring changes and developments in Health provision in order to ensure the optimal performance of the fund and make recommendations on changes to the investment policies to ensure NHIMA is responsive to changes in the environment.
  • Improve efficiency in the way assets are managed and monitored through the innovation of strategies and monitoring financial indicators to reduce cost and create new value to ensure the maximum realization of investment returns in all asset classes.
  • Maximize returns for alternative asset investments, such as infrastructure investments, private equity, Socially targeted investments, Economically targeted investments, offshore investments, and other forms of alternative investments for the provision of value for money this is meant to minimize the rate of spending and in return increase investment returns of the portfolio.
  • Conduct research on the economic performance of the investments environment and write a report,  making recommendations that will cite relevant actions for the market strategy to increase NHIMA’s investment portfolio.
  • Do investment placements on the market to acquire additional assets to expand the investments portfolio to enable the growth of the NHI fund for benefit of members.
  • Record and reconcile collateral from commercial banks, and to ensure that collateral pledged and maturity proceeds’ amounts of fixed Term deposits square up to prevent risk exposure of the NHI fund and to keep bank records and Bank financial statements up to date and avoid collisions with any banks and financial institutions involved.
  • Do investment appraisals as guided by the Manager- Investments to acquire additional high yielding assets to expand the investments portfolio through high returns in investments.
  • Write and submit monthly and quarterly investments reports and ensure that the investments ledger is accurate and updated regularly.
  • To submit matured investments schedule and investments incomes to the Manager- Investments, to ensure accrued investment income and received incomes are reconciled accordingly.
  • Monitor payback periods on infrastructure asset classes, on assets invested such as medical equipment, through funding from the Authority’s Investment Accounts
  • View all Investment bank balances periodically for the attention of Manager- Investments, to facilitate investment decisions.
  • Submit Weekly,Monthly, Quarterly, and Yearly reports


Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience

•5 “O” Levels with credit and above in Math’s and English 

•Holder of Degree in Accountancy / Business Administration,            Enoconimcs/Investment Management/ACCA, CIMA/Business related fields 

•4-5 years of experience as an investment analyst/ Treasury Operations/ Front Office  in a similar organization with a similar investment scope and Size

•ACI: Dealing Certificate/ Investment Advisors & Stock Brokers Course 



Competencies required for this Role

5 “O” Levels with credit and above in Math’s and English 

•Holder of Degree in Accountancy / Business Administration,            Enoconimcs/Investment Management/ACCA, CIMA/Business related fields 

•4-5 years of experience as an investment analyst/ Treasury Operations/ Front Office  in a similar organization with a similar investment scope and Size

•ACI: Dealing Certificate/ Investment Advisors & Stock Brokers Course
