The key functions of the role will include but not limited to;
- Designing, installing, configuring, and maintaining databases: The Senior DBA will be responsible for creating and maintaining the organization's databases, including data warehouses, data marts, and other database technologies. They will work with development teams to design and implement new databases and make changes to existing databases as required.
- Managing database security: The Senior DBA will be responsible for implementing security policies and procedures to ensure data integrity and security. They will work with IT security teams to identify and address potential vulnerabilities and threats to the database systems.
- Monitoring and optimizing database performance: The Senior DBA will be responsible for monitoring database performance and identifying areas for improvement. They will work with development teams to optimize database queries and ensure optimal performance.
- Providing technical support and guidance: The Senior DBA will provide technical support and guidance to other ICT staff and end-users. They will troubleshoot database issues and provide solutions to ensure the smooth operation of database systems.
- Developing and implementing policies and procedures: The Senior DBA will develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure data integrity and security. They will also create backup and recovery procedures to ensure that critical data is protected in case of a disaster.
- Staying up to date with emerging technologies: The Senior DBA will stay up to date with emerging technologies and trends in database management. They will evaluate new technologies and make recommendations for their implementation.
- Mentor and supervise junior DBAs: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs to help them develop their skills and knowledge. This includes conducting training sessions and performance evaluations.
