Senior Investment Officer- Back Office and Compliance

Job Purpose

The Investment Directorateis responsible for the investment of fresh funds and for the management ofexisting funds in line with the NHIMA investment objectives, to ensure the realizationof positive returns that enable the payment of claims when they fall due.

TheSenior Investment Officer- Back Office And Compliance  is responsible for the validation of documentsbefore investments are made, participates in the implementation of the NHIMAinvestment products, and monitors projects/ investment asset financing andinformation flow and updates, in order to provide efficiency in investmenttransactions. Further, this role ensures that regulatory compliance is adheredto as per best Investments industry practice, applicable securities laws,Treasury and Investments laws and total adherence to the internal processes,policies and procedures for investment settlements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Validate documents to ensure the information is up to date and accurate to ensure decisions made are correct.
  • Take part in the implementation of the NHIMA’s new investment products/ New amendments to Investments Policy asset classes to assist meet the NHIMA investment strategies.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of systems, policies andprocedures used in the delivery of back-office service, to identify gaps anddevelop solutions for the gaps identified.
  • Ensure due diligence oninvestment transactions to identify and address any risk exposures promptly.
  • Ensure the reconciliation of investmenttransactions to ensure investment data is correctly documented and reported inorder to assist make informed investment decisions
  • Ensure the clearing oftransactions to ensure investment transactions happen within the stipulatedtime for enhanced returns on investment decisions.
  • Prepare reports on investment back office  to ensure challenges are identified andsolutions to the challenges made for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness inback-office operations.
  • Monitor the improvement on the current projects/ investments in medical equipment/ the infrastructure asset class, to ensure management is aware of any challenges that require to be addressed.
  • In cases of default for investment transactions, follow-up with counterparties until such default is settled.
  • Report NHIMA’s back-office incidents to the Manager- Investments, and recommend relevant actions to be taken, to ensure appropriate strategies are developed and implemented to prevent recurrences.
  • Coordinate with any outsourced back office (s) to easily monitor and control all NHIMA’s back-office operations for enhanced service delivery.
  • Check the data flow between the front office and any outsourced back office to ensure that systems are properly reconciled and accurate.
  • Coordinate the update of project records/ asset financing investments, agreements, contracts, and documents to ensure the documents are well updated and maintained for easy retrieval of supporting documents.
  • Ensure that data is correctly captured into the Investments Software to ensure timely generation of information from the system.
  • Ensure that all investment transactions are settled with counterparties within the shortest time period as guided by governing processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain daily manual records of all the NHIMA’s investment transactions in order to keep a clean investment record.
  • Provides input into the budgeting process



Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • 5 "O" Levels with credit and above in Maths's and English
  • Holder of Degree in Accountancy/Business Administration/Economics Fields, ACCA CIMA/Business related fields 
  • 4-5 years of experience as an investment t analyst/Treasury Operations/Back Office in a similar organization with similar investment scope and size.
  • ACI; Operations Certificate/Investment Advisors & Stockbrokers course 


Competencies required for this Role

  • ss 5 "O" Levels with credit and above in Maths's and English

  • 4-5 years of experience as an investment t analyst/Treasury Operations/Back Office in a similar organization with similar investment scope and size.
